Masin Kearney
Masin is a fourth-year undergraduate researcher in the Seyfried Lab, double-majoring in Chemistry (B.S) and Biology (B.S). She joined the lab in 2022 to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying protein misfolding and accumulation in neurodegenerative diseases. Her current research focuses on utilizing phosphorylated peptide enrichment techniques to analyze phosphoproteomic changes in Alzheimer’s Disease, which serves as the basis for her honors thesis.
In the summer of 2024, Masin participated in a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Chemistry. Her work involved developing β-lactam chemical probes to study penicillin-binding proteins in gram-positive bacteria.
She is particularly interested in accessible scientific communication. Beyond the lab, Masin is a student writer for the Office of Technology Transfer at Emory University, where she interviews researchers and writes articles that translate academic research into accessible content for the general public.
